Frequently asked questions

What are the exchange rates today?+

This page streams live interbank mid-rates for the major currency pairs — EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, AUD/USD, USD/CHF, USD/CAD, NZD/USD and EUR/GBP — refreshed roughly every 30 seconds, plus a converter that works across any two of the eight major currencies.

Why is the rate I get at a bank different from these rates?+

We display the interbank mid-rate — the midpoint between global buy and sell prices that banks use to trade with each other. Retail banks, card networks and exchange bureaus add a spread or fee on top, so the rate you receive is slightly worse in whichever direction you convert. The mid-rate is the best benchmark for comparing providers.

What moves currency exchange rates?+

Interest-rate differentials between central banks are the biggest driver, followed by inflation data, economic growth, trade balances and risk sentiment. Events like Fed, ECB or BoJ meetings and US jobs reports regularly move major pairs within seconds of release.

How can I trade currencies?+

The foreign exchange market trades 24 hours a day, five days a week. Through CFDs you can go long or short any major pair. IUX offers 120+ currency pairs with spreads from 0.0 pips and a free demo account to practice on before trading real funds. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses.

When is the best time to exchange money?+

No one can time the market perfectly, but the interactive chart on this page shows the recent range over a week, a month or a year. If the current rate is near the favourable end of that range and you already need to convert, many people split the conversion into parts to average their rate rather than converting everything at once.

Prices on this page are real-time global market reference rates, provided for information only — not investment advice. CFDs are leveraged products and carry a high level of risk.
